Obama Admin Sanctions MS-13 Street Gang

The executive order under which MS-13 is being targeted gives Treasury the power to target transnational criminal organizations with economic sanctions. When issued in July 2011, it included four organizations — the Brother’s Circle, the Camorra, the Zetas and Yakuza — in its annex. MS-13 is the first new addition.

“MS-13 is an extremely violent and dangerous gang responsible for a multitude of crimes that directly threaten the welfare and security of U.S. citizens, as well as countries throughout Central America,” said David Cohen, undersecretary of Treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence, in a statement.
