Lords of Dogtown

A cool story in the NYT about the director of Dogtown, Catherine Hardwicke. She also directed the movie Thirteen.

Ireland to get skateparks

The Irish government is set to give 1 million euros (about $1.25 million U.S. dollars) to build local skateboard parks.
Way to go Ireland!
Meanwhile....
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada isn't getting a park quite so easily.
Meanwhile...
The BBC Sport Academy tell us how to build a skateboard. We also learn that that Tony Hawk would like to be called anything else but "Birdman."

Danny Way

Get this man a cape. Way also is going to attempt to jump over the Great Wall of China June 19. "I want to expose skateboarding to the world," he says in the story. OK. We believe you. Just make sure you wear your safety gear.

Pro-Tec Pool party results

Some pics here
More coming!

The women first:

1. Cara-Beth Burnside/$2,500
2. Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins/$1,300
3. Mimi Knoop/$700

I was surprised by the outcome. I thought Apryl Woodcock would've won but what do I know. Apryl is the youngest in the group, 12 or 13. To see Apryl in action, visit the Side Project or click here

The Masters:
1. Chris Miller - $10,000
2. Jeff Grosso - $6,000
3. Lance Mountain - $4,000
This site has the men's results. It also has some good pics.

The judging for the mens competition seemed right on. Chris Miller and Jeff Grosso definitely put on a good show. I particularly liked Jeff's style as he was always grinding along the lip of the pool and then diving back in.

The Pro results:

1. Rune Glifberg - $25,000
2. Omar Hassan - $15,000
3. Brian Patch - $8,000

Pro-Tec Pool Party at Vans

Vans really knows how to throw a party. As one person put it, this was one of the most gnarliest skateboarding events ever.
Here's a sampling. More to come....

John Frusciante leaves Chilis

On this day in 1992, guitarst John Frusciante left the Red Hot Chili Peppers to "go inside." He emerged years later a happy and healthy guy with more musical genius than ever and in 1998, he rejoined the Chili Peppers. He also started doing more solo work and in the past few years, he has created some of the best music around.
Thanks John!

Williamsport Asst. Mayor says NO Skatepark

The City of Willimasport doesn't allow skateboarding in the city and the asst. Mayor, Monty Jones, says he doesn't want to waste taxpayers money to build a park. A short-sighted mayor I say and a little behind the times. He needs to take a cue from the Mayor of Newburyport, Mass. , who helped rally to build a park and even got on a board herself to celebrate the opening.
