After his speech, Mr. Obama tried to call both Mr. Boehner and the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, but was told they were asleep. The efforts from both sides, after a long and exhausting campaign, suggested the urgency of acting in the few weeks before roughly $700 billion in automatic tax increases and across-the-board spending cuts take effect at year’s end — the “fiscal cliff.” A failure to reach agreement could arrest the economic recovery. Boehner and McConnell Asleep When Obama Called Election Night
This pretty much sums up the really bad attitude and the lack of respect that the GOP has shown Obama in his first term. Maybe the old men just needed their beauty rest. I'm sure they're still licking their self-inflicted wounds. This is the reason why we have the "fiscal cliff" in the first place. This can't continue. Republicans need to grow up and realize that WE come first. The republicans will work with the democrats and Obama and together they'll solve the tax issues because they have no other choice.
