President Obama is considering asking Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David H. Petraeus.Perhaps the best bit in the Washington Post story is that Obama is going to support Susan Rice's nomination for Secretary of State. The media have been blathering about how she has no chance because of what she said early on about Benghazi. Republicans wrapped their heads around Benghazi as a way to try and boost Romney, who looked like a foreign policy dweeb. Of course there are questions to be answered, such as how to prevent another attack on a US consulate, but the GOP criticism has been 100% political.
Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. WaPo

Obama Considering John Kerry for Secretary of Defense
John Kerry has more experience in the military than Donald Rumsfeld, Robert Gates or Leon Panetta. Kerry would be perfect because he has the experience, the intelligence and he's not a war monger.
