Obama's Interview With Savannah Guthrie
Obama says sometimes men need to be knocked across the head to recognize sacrifices they might need to make or relief they might need to give to their spouses. This interview is part of NBC's series, A Women's Nation.
Obama says the strategy on Afghanistan might be formulated before the presidential runoff, but the strategy isn't likely to be announced until after.
Obama's lower approval ratings on his handling of Afghanistan shows that sometimes it doesn't matter what the public thinks because they don't know enough to know any better. Of any issue, Obama's deliberations and rethinking of strategy in Afghanistan has been one of the best things he's done yet.
Obama talks about his mother's work with micro financing in developing countries. He says a society can be measured by how well it treats women.

The Obamas: An Intimidatingly Functional Pair

It’s true that the Obamas appear to be an intimidatingly functional pair, with their constant affectionate winking at each other, their enlightened, considerate “Michelle time” and their adorable, well-behaved daughters – the legacy of the Obamas' studied, reasonable parenting – who perform “first chores” and are always, without exception, in bed by 8. In the White House, we haven’t seen many such ideal models of marriage and family, but rather numerous examples of blazing dysfunction.Think of the retrograde Reagan marriage (he called her “mommy”), or the florid infidelities of Bill Clinton. As for the first children, they provide a virtual parade of maladjustment: the sullen, tomboyish Amy Carter; the rebellious, disaffected Reagan kids; the hard-partying Bush twins, and poor Chelsea, who often seemed a sort of first prop. Not since JFK was in the White House has there been a political marriage Americans have envied to this extent, a first family they might actually like to emulate. Read more at Salon

Obama Family Outing: Thanksgiving Food Drive

We finally have a president that gets it.
HP: CHICAGO - President-elect Barack Obama and his wife took their daughters to work at a food bank on the day before Thanksgiving, saying they wanted to show the girls the meaning of the holiday, especially when so many people are struggling.
Ten-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha joined their parents to shake hands and give holiday wishes to hundreds of people who had been lined up for hours at the food bank on Chicago's south side.
....
Obama then turned to his wife and suggested they go visit the kids. Secret Service agents, looking surprised, disappeared inside the building to accommodate his request.
Minutes later, hundreds of children were brought down to the school auditorium, and Obama loped onstage as they screamed and cheered.
"I just wanted to come by and wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving," he said. He then asked the children what they would be eating for Thanksgiving dinner.
Turkey? Stuffing? Green beans? Sweet potato pie?
Perhaps it was a hint at the planned menu for the Obamas, who are planning to host a holiday gathering at their Hyde Park home.
The president-elect then took questions from the children, one of whom wanted to know what it was like to be followed around all the time. It is a topic that seems to touch a nerve in Obama, who has lamented the lack of privacy that comes with his new job. Read the rest and see a slide show.

Michelle Obama's Biography
Just shown at the convention. Michelle, in a simple green dress, gave a heartfelt speech tonight. (transcript) The best part was when her daughters joined her on stage and Obama popped up on the screen. His daughters were genuinely excited to see him, blowing kisses. Here's that video.

Obama Family on Access Hollywood
The warm, fuzzy stuff.
Likely the last time the family is interviewed. I loved the interview but there are a lot of cheap shots taken out there in blogland at the expense of children.
Access: BUTTE, Montana --
In an Access Hollywood exclusive interview, Senator Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, along with daughters Malia, 10 and Sasha, 7 open up about rules, what it is like for friends to meet dad, communicating on the trail, potential plans for moving into the White House and more.
The four-part interview will air on Access Hollywood, Tuesday, July 8th, Wednesday, July 9th and Thursday, July 10th.
Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos caught up with the Obama family on the campaign trail in Butte, Montana to celebrate Malia’s 10th birthday and Independence Day.
