Mitch Daniels Plunges Into GOP Pit

It's almost as if the GOP is conspiring to let Obama have an easy win in 2012. I had thought that Mitch Daniels might be different from the rest of the republicans. He seemed like a moderate, pragmatic guy, a relatively decent republican contender for president. But he's proved he's just like the rest of them wallowing in the GOP pit of muck and yuck. Taking a stand against Planned Parenthood is nothing but foolish. It also shows he's a coward, just like the rest of the republican pack.
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) announced Friday that he plans to sign legislation that would prevent Planned Parenthood in the state from receiving Medicaid funds. When he does, Indiana will be the first state to take that step.

“I will sign HEA 1210 when it reaches my desk a week or so from now,” Daniels said. “I supported this bill from the outset, and the recent addition of language guarding against the spending of tax dollars to support abortions creates no reason to alter my position.” WaPo

Mitch Daniels on Meet the Press Video

Mitch Daniels, governor of Indiana, has been talked about as a republican presidential contender. Right now, republicans don't have much to choose from. Daniels seems reasonable, more so than any of the other choices at the moment. Bachmann, Romney, Newt, Huckabee. Ugh.
Daniels says he's agreed to consider running for president:

Republicans Wish Obama Well BUT

In the republican weekly address, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels says republicans really do wish Obama well (contrary to what Rush, Newt and the noisiest republicans say).

But this week, attacking the "Pelosi bill," (Henry Waxman introduced the bill) Daniels says the climate change bill is going to cost too much. He says it will double energy bills and cause major job losses.

Then he tries to appeal to ignorant people with the old: excuse me for being a practical Midwesterner who doesn't want to get run over by the liberals from California.

Cap and trade (read cap and trade 101) will cost us but not as much as republicans say. They've grossly exaggerated the costs (get a fact check here) because they still think Americans are mostly ignorant and will have a Pavlovian response whenever they mention taxes.

It will cost us more in the long run if we don't reduce our carbon emissions. Honestly, I don't think republicans have read any of the science because they simply don't believe in man-made climate change and those that do believe in global warming don't think anything can be done about it.

I don't think they've bothered to learn about environmental issues because it's just not their thing. Caring about the environment is NOT a core republican principle.

Read the latest version of the House energy bill here. The fact is we're going to have to have short term hurt for long term gain, something that Americans are still reckoning with.

Henry Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, calls republicans out on their scare tactics. In this case, he's responding to the republicans' new fear mongerer in charge, Dear Newt. Read about the 2007 cap and trade report Waxman talks about here:

Governors State Woes on Face the Nation

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels boasts that he doesn't need to use the stimulus money to fill the holes. He's going to save it for rainier days. I'd bet the people of Indiana would beg to differ with him.
Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland says Honda has asked him to help save the auto industry for the sake of all the industry support jobs.

Democratic governors support stimulus. Republican governors are split:
