Obama's Town Hall at Green Valley High in Henderson
Obama's town hall in Henderson, right outside of Las Vegas, will begin at 1 pm eastern. Obama will then speak at 2:55 pm eastern to the Chamber of Commerce and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority at the Aria Hotel at City Center. Both will be audio streamed here. It's likely to also be live streamed at MSNBC.com.
See the Nevada delegation attendee list here. Loudmouth mayor, Oscar Goodman was not on the list.
Obama announces a new housing program in Nevada.
Obama speaks to the Chamber (full video):
Here's a video excerpt from the town hall of Obama explaining climate change for conservatives. I wish more scientists would give explanations like this because even I fell asleep during Al Gore's global warming video, An Inconvenient Truth. Climate change also means the disappearance of species, such as frogs, and an increase in wildfires.

Obama Turns Down Meeting With Nevada Gov. Gibbons
If you have any questions as to how lame Gov. Jim Gibbons is, check out this blog that keeps tabs on Nevada politics or this one.
Gibbons is going through a divorce and is accused of pushing women. He's allegedly got bunches of problems and isn't a very good governor either. He's promised to veto a domestic partnership bill in the works. His antics are regular fodder for local columnists.
Since Obama turned him down for a meeting (Obama will be fundraising for Harry Reid May 26), Gibbons is pouting:
Carson City - The Office of Governor Jim Gibbons was notified today that President Barack Obama has refused to meet with the Governor and key business leaders from Nevada. Governor Gibbons requested the meeting in a letter to President Obama so the President could address statements he made that were critical to Nevada and have caused economic damage to convention business and tourism business in the Silver State. Earlier this year, the President told an audience in Elkhart, Indiana, “You can’t get corporate jets. You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer’s dime.” That quote was seen by many as an insult to Las Vegas and as a message to companies across the Nation to stay away from Las Vegas for corporate meetings and conventions.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reports over 400 conventions and business meetings scheduled to take place in Las Vegas recently have cancelled. These cancelled events translate into 111,800 guests in Las Vegas and over 250,000 “room-nights”. The cancelled conventions and meetings have cost the Las Vegas economy over $100-million, not including gaming revenue.
“I am disappointed at the hypocrisy shown by this Administration,” Gibbons said, “President Obama is coming to Las Vegas later this month for a political fundraiser, but he will not help the struggling families in Las Vegas and Nevada who are out of work because of his reckless comments.” Governor Gibbons noted, “President Obama is coming to Las Vegas to raise campaign cash for Senator Harry Reid, apparently our money is good enough for the President, but our tourism, jobs, and economic future are not.” Gibbons added, “This is politics, pure and simple, President Obama stood for change, but all he has done is brought negative economic change to Nevada.”
Governor Gibbons is calling upon Senator Reid to use any influence he might have to ask President Obama to encourage Americans to visit America during their summer vacations this year. “Sometimes Washington politicians forget that the people of Nevada are Americans,” Governor Gibbons said, “This President needs to repair the damage he has done.”

Obama Touts Energy Plan in Las Vegas
Obama's new energy site. Be informed!
Obama spoke about his energy plan in Las Vegas yesterday and this blog captures Obama's plan in depth.
Lasvegasgleaner.com: So Obama reiterated the facts that are now so familiar to people who pay attention, which is to say the facts that are completely and totally lost on the American electorate generally and people who watch Fox News specifically:
New drilling, whether in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge or offshore, though a trendy notion, isn't going to produce oil for a decade or so and does nothing for gas prices today.
Even when the production comes online, and even under the conclusions reached by Bush's own Energy Department, such new drilling isn't going to produce enough oil to have a significant impact on the price of gas. There are 68 million acres of available federal oil and gas leases on and offshore already controlled by the oil industry and available for drilling, but the industry isn't drilling on it.
The industry's only interest in opening up ANWR or new offshore areas for drilling, Obama said, is to bank the leases while the public is softened up to the idea, and then the companies can dribble out any production on them at some point in the future.
And yet, people are freaking out about the price of gas, so when Republicans (whose previous energy policy -- invading Iraq -- failed to work out as planned) yammer on about more drilling, it's understandable that a lot of folks might think it's a good idea.
"If I thought it was a meaningful way to solve the problem, I would consider it," Obama said, even given the environmental risks of opening up areas for drilling that have been closed off in large part due to environmental concerns.
.......Obama is touting:
Tax the oil industry's obscene profits.
Another stimulus package to give people more cash money.
A $1,000 tax cut for 95 percent of the workforce.
Close the Enron loophole (crafted by John McCain economic guru Phil Gramm, a point Obama neglected to mention) that has allowed hedge fund managers and speculators to artificially explode the price of oil in completely unregulated markets (Obama also neglected to use the word "bubble" though it seems an increasingly apt description of a dysfunctional global oil market).
Obama also said oil companies should be charged a fee for every acre where they are already allowed to drill but aren't doing it. Good one.
