I don't agree with all parts of the article, especially this: "Democrats pretend that no changes are necessary to Medicare (health care for the elderly) or Social Security (pensions). Republican solutions always involve unspecified spending cuts, and they regard any tax rise as socialism. Each side prefers to denounce the other, reinforcing the very polarisation that is preventing progress."
The question is not if these things need to be done, it's when (during a recovery?) and on whose back? Also, equal blame is being put on democrats, when that's just not the case. It's a matter of a few bad apples (radicals) in the House who are spoiling the entire Congress.
But you gotta admit, Obama in a beret and Boehner in Lederhosen is pretty funny.
