Automakers have a duty to act “quickly and decisively” on safety complaints, President Barack Obama said in his first public comments on Toyota Motor Corp.’s handling of defects that led to recalls of 8 million vehicles worldwide.
“Every automaker has an obligation when public safety is a concern to come forward quickly and decisively when problems are identified,” Obama said in an interview at the White House with Bloomberg BusinessWeek, which will appear on newsstands tomorrow. “We don’t yet know whether that happened with Toyota.
