Update: Watch the full video here.
Update: This tweet nutshells what Obama just did: "With one stroke, this exposes GOP as against birth control, not for religious freedom as they claim. Checkmate." There's not much the Catholic Church can balk about. Brilliant fix. Win win.
Update: Obama's fix: If a religious affiliated organization objects, it still needs to offer the insurance but doesn't have to pay for it.
Update: CBS's Mark Knoller reports that Obama personally called NY Archbishop Dolan about the revised contraceptive policy. Wonder if that will make a difference.
Obama will speak at 12:15 pm eastern time. I imagine he'll say something rational. Apparently, he'll offer a compromise with the Catholic Church bully. Doubtful that will be good enough. But the conversation has gotten small, reduced to childish insults and name calling, so Obama has to do something.
Who would've thought we'd be discussing something so basic as birth control in 2012. Poll after poll says Catholics support the birth control measure (which requires employers to offer health insurance that covers birth control - exempting churches, but not religious affiliated hospitals and universities). One thing is clear, the Catholic Church doesn't reflect its flock. It's preaching but no one seems to be listening.
