I'm not sure if the tea parties are full of people truly mad about taxes (even though we all just got tax breaks and record deficits were created under Bush) or they're mostly just haters of Obama and what they perceive as socialist government.
Either way, it's wrong to dismiss the tea parties as James Wolcott does in this video. Nancy Pelosi called it AstroTurf, instead of grassroots.
Dismissing it makes it stronger.
They may be small and they may be supported by big outfits such as FreedomWorks and Fox "News," but there's no doubt there's a strong minority of mad people.
The tea party movement could be a way for the republicans to sort themselves out, to figure out who's going to lead the party and how they're going to move forward.
Do the republican leaders glom on to tea parties or does a strong leader emerge to take the GOP in a progressive and positive direction? And did I just dismiss the tea party movement?
