Zogby Poll: Obama Nearly Tie In Pennsylvania

47% clinton to 43% obama with 10% undecided. i'm not a big fan of polls, except when they're good. the gap is now 4 and was 16.

zogby: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton of New York leads party rival Barack Obama of Illinois by a narrow margin in the all-important Pennsylvania primary heading into the final stretch before Democrats there head to the polls April 22, a fresh Newsmax/Zogby telephone poll shows.

Clinton wins 47% support to Obama's 43% among likely Democratic primary voters, the survey shows. Another 2% are still holding out for someone else, while 8% said they are yet undecided.

Among men, Obama leads Clinton by a 48% to 40% margin, while Clinton leads among women, 53% to 39%. Among men, 9% are undecided, while 7% of women have yet to make up their minds.

Race is playing a big factor in the contest here. Obama leads among African American voters, 77% to 21% for Clinton. But among whites, Clinton leads by a 53% to 36% margin. Among Catholic voters, Clinton wins 62% support, compared to 29% support for Obama. But, among Protestants, Obama leads Clinton, 50% to 40%.

The Newsmax/Zogby survey shows two issues dominate in the minds of Pennsylvania Democrats - first and foremost the economy, and to a lesser degree, the war in Iraq. More than half - 53% - said the economy was their top concern in making a choice for the nomination, while 32% said the war was their top concern. This was the case in every region of the state and among every age group in the state.

Obama Gaining in Pennsylvania

quinnipiac: Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is catching up with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary and now trails 50 - 44 percent among likely primary voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This compares to a 50 - 41 percent Sen. Clinton lead in an April 2 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN uh-pe-ack) University.

In this latest survey, one of the biggest shifts is among women who went from 54 - 37 percent for Clinton April 2 to 54 - 41 percent for her today. A look at other groups shows:
White voters for Clinton 56 - 38 percent, down from 59 - 34 percent last week.
Black voters back Obama 75 - 17 percent, compared to 73 - 11 percent.
Men are for Obama 48 - 44 percent, compared to a 46 - 46 percent tie last week.
Voters under 45 go with Obama 55 - 40, while older voters back Clinton 55 - 38 percent.

Obama Up in Polls and Money

looks like obama has closed clinton's lead gap in pennsylvania. it went from a clinton 16 point lead to just 6. polls are fickle like people so i don't put my confidence in them. at the very least, they must capture the trend -- that more people are tuning into obama.

and alas, some are beginning to call the race for what it is. OVER.

But as long as she was battling Barack Obama at the polls every week, she could hope to control the narrative of the Democratic race, even if she was losing individual contests. And so her campaign kept sprouting new raisons d’être: the wisdom of superdelegates, the enfranchisement of Florida and Michigan, her supposed ability to carry big states.

No more. We’re now halfway through the six weeks between Mississippi and Pennsylvania, and this long interlude has washed away Clinton’s spin. Now her campaign is not only over. It’s obviously over.
