Huntsman Associates Sexual Harassment Claims With "Bimbos"
This offhanded remark is telling. It's why the republican party is made up of mostly white males. I get that Jon Huntsman was attacking Cain, but how dare he call a woman a bimbo. The GOP ought to be fully ashamed of their presidential contenders by now. As an American, I'm embarrassed for them. But they remain clueless.
In between campaign stops in New Hampshire today, Huntsman said that the latest "bimbo eruptions" surrounding rival Herman Cain have damaged the quality of the GOP race for the White House. The former Utah governor suggested the former pizza CEO should consider leaving the race for the Republican nomination.
“We’ve got real issues to talk about not the latest bimbo eruption,” Huntsman told the Boston Herald editorial board today. Read more at msnbc

Obama Orders Review of Counterterrorism Training Materials
The White House quietly ordered a widespread review of government counterterrorism training materials last month, following Danger Room’s reports that officials at the FBI, military and Justice Department taught their colleagues that “mainstream” Muslims embrace violence and compared the Islamic religion to the Death Star.
According to a Pentagon memorandum acquired by Danger Room, the White House’s National Security Staff in October requested “Departments and Agencies” to “provide their screening process for CVE trainers and speakers.” (.pdf) CVE refers to “Countering Violent Extremism,” the euphemism du jour for the war on terrorism. The memorandum says that “recent media attention” led to the review, and contains a single attachment to demonstrate that attention: “Spencer Ackerman’s Wired.com article.” Read more at Wired's Danger Room
Obama's Statement on Storming of British Embassy in Iran
The United States condemns in the strongest terms the storming of the British Embassy in Tehran. Iran has a responsibility to protect the diplomatic missions present in its country and the personnel stationed at them. We urge Iran to fully respect its international obligations, to condemn the incident, to prosecute the offenders, and to ensure that no further such incidents take place either at the British Embassy or any other mission in Iran. Our State Department is in close contact with the British government and we stand ready to support our allies at this difficult time.

Joint Statement on US EU Summit
Obama met with European leaders today.
Joint Statement: US-EU Summit
1. We, the leaders of the United States and the European Union, met today at the White House to affirm our close partnership. Drawing upon our shared values and experience, and recognizing our deep interdependence, we are committed to ensuring that our partnership brings greater prosperity and security to our 800 million citizens, and to working together to address global challenges.
2. Since our meeting in Lisbon last November, the global economy has entered a new and difficult phase. We are committed to working together to reinvigorate economic growth, create jobs, and ensure financial stability. We will do so by taking actions that address near-term growth concerns, as well as fiscal and financial vulnerabilities, and that strengthen the foundations of long-lasting and balanced growth. In that regard, the United States welcomes the EU’s actions and determination to take all necessary steps to ensure the euro area’s financial stability and resolve the crisis. The EU looks forward to U.S. action on medium term fiscal consolidation. We agree on the importance of working together with emerging economies to foster policies supporting sustained and balanced global growth. We recall our commitment to implement fully the outcome of the G20 Cannes Summit.
3. We recall our G20 commitment to support the multilateral trading system and resist protectionism. We stand by the Doha Development Agenda mandate and recognize the progress achieved so far, but note that in order to contribute to confidence we must pursue fresh, credible approaches in 2012 to advance the negotiations and pursue new opportunities and challenges. We look forward to the upcoming Ministerial meeting in Geneva, which provides an important opportunity to work on such approaches. Read the rest

Obama's Statement on Barney Frank's Retirement
This country has never had a Congressman like Barney Frank, and the House of Representatives will not be the same without him. For over 30 years, Barney has been a fierce advocate for the people of Massachusetts and Americans everywhere who needed a voice. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of families and businesses and helped make housing more affordable. He has stood up for the rights of LGBT Americans and fought to end discrimination against them. And it is only thanks to his leadership that we were able to pass the most sweeping financial reform in history designed to protect consumers and prevent the kind of excessive risk-taking that led to the financial crisis from ever happening again. Barney’s passion and his quick wit will be missed in the halls of Congress, and Michelle and I join the people of the Bay State in thanking him for his years of service.

Meet the Press: Will Unemployment Benefits be Extended?
I can't exactly explain it, but I stand loser politicians -- democrats or republicans -- telling us what's "humane." Maybe it's because our Congress is one big FAIL, and at times I think we'd be better off if they weren't making decisions on behalf of Americans.

Americans at their Finest Moment
I wonder how many Occupy demonstrators, or those who support the movement, are out shopping today. Oh, the hypocrisy. It is Buy Nothing Day, a day meant to bring awareness to the fact that you don't have to respond competitively to weeks of crafty advertising by retailers.
On the upside, we are a consumer-driven economy, which means no jobs until folks start spending their money again. It looks like these shoppers are in full-on binge mode after months of being on the wagon:
Somehow, I don't think telling people to go home conveys the proper message either. Occupy OKC in a Wal-Mart:

Mitt Romney's Hair Designer
The $70 hair cut that gives Mitt that Ken doll look. Since we're talking about his hair, Mitt needs to go a shade lighter on the hair color. He looks like he's trying too hard to cover the gray:
Nobody has a more complicated and intimate relationship with Mr. Romney’s hair than the man who has styled it for more than two decades, a barrel-chested, bald Italian immigrant named Leon de Magistris.
For years, Mr. de Magistris said in an interview, he has tried to persuade Mr. Romney, 64, to loosen up his look by tousling his meticulous mane.
“I will tell him to mess it up a little bit,” said Mr. de Magistris, 69. “I said to him, ‘Let it be more natural.’ ”
The suggestion has not gone over well. “He wants a look that is very controlled,” Mr. de Magistris said. “He is a very controlled man. The hair goes with the man.”
Mr. Romney’s is a restrained, classic look: short at the neck, neat on the sides and swept back off the forehead. “It is not something stylish,” Mr. de Magistris noted. “It is clean and conservative.” More at the NYT
White House Statement on Egypt Nov. 25
Since the start of the Arab Spring, the United States has spoken out for a set of core principles that have guided our response to events, including opposition to the use of violence and repression, defense of universal rights including the freedom of peaceful assembly, and support for political and economic reform that meets the legitimate aspirations of ordinary people throughout the region.
In Egypt over the past several days, we have seen protesters demand the realization of these principles. We have condemned the excessive use of force against them and called for restraint on all sides. We deeply regret the loss of life, and urge the Egyptian authorities to implement an independent investigation into the circumstances of those deaths. But the situation Egypt faces requires a more fundamental solution, devised by Egyptians, which is consistent with universal principles.
The United States strongly believes that the new Egyptian government must be empowered with real authority immediately. We believe that Egypt’s transition to democracy must continue, with elections proceeding expeditiously, and all necessary measures taken to ensure security and prevent intimidation. Most importantly, we believe that the full transfer of power to a civilian government must take place in a just and inclusive manner that responds to the legitimate aspirations of the Egyptian people, as soon as possible.
Egypt has overcome challenges before and will do so again. The United States will continue to stand with the Egyptian people as they build a democracy worthy of Egypt’s great history.

Romney Fails to Realize Integrity Matters
Romney doesn't seem to be interested in presenting himself, his policies and beliefs to the American people, so he's playing foolish games. Really? You sent out a press release? What about the American people who saw the liar ad? Good grief. We're so tired of childish behavior from these politicians.
Why Don't Republicans Give Equal Time to Children Who Are Alive?
I understand why republicans rail against abortion. But I don't understand their disjointed morality. Why don't they also care about the children who are alive, amazing kids like these living on the streets. All kids are amazing. All kids have potential. But for some reasons, republicans care mostly for the cells. It only smacks of self righteousness and hypocrisy and nothing more.

CBO: Stimulus Created 6 Million Jobs and Lowered Unemployment
Update: See how the rightwing Newsmax wrote this story based on the same information here.
The republicans won the stimulus debate even though they were wrong. What I have always wondered is how could people believe that the stimulus didn't create jobs? The money went to keeping teachers, firefighters, police... employed. But republicans don't count those as jobs for some reason. Republicans seem to be only interested in one constituent -- the wealthy.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said Tuesday that President Obama’s 2009 stimulus package continues to benefit the struggling economy.
The agency said the measure raised gross domestic product by between 0.3 and 1.9 percent in the third quarter of 2011, which ended Sept. 30. The Commerce Department said Tuesday that GDP in that quarter was only 2 percent total.
CBO said that the stimulus also lowered the unemployment rate by between 0.2 and 1.3 percentage points and increased the number of people employed by between 0.4 million and 2.4 million. The Hill

Newt on Immigration
Shameful that republicans are so inhumane that Newt has to worry about being humane. It was also interesting that the crowd responded to Newt's proposed amnesty of undocumented immigrants with loud applause. That surprised me. I don't believe it though. I know this sounds conspiratorial, but perhaps the crowd -- made up of like people -- agreed before the debate to applaud Newt on that issue, to applaud Newt on every issue. He's got a lot of ties to debate sponsors. Republicans desperately need some Latino support.
It just doesn't add up. Republicans only ever talk about their opposition to any kind of amnesty program. One thing is certain, though, Heritage Foundation, one of the sponsors, is anything but humane on immigration. Or less conspiratorial, perhaps the crowd was simply a Newt crowd.

White House on Supercommittee Failure
I'm tired of reading that taxing the rich means "sharing the wealth," which suggests that somehow the rich are wealthy because they're harder workers or more deserving and that they need to share out of some sort of goodness. No, the rich are wealthy because they're hoarding the wealth. They're paying themselves greatly. Salaries for average workers aren't keeping up with the times. That is why we have this great divide.
It comes down to a unwillingness by republicans to ask the wealthiest to pay more, says Jay Carney.

Romney Says Supercommittee Too Incompetent to Get it Done Alone
So Mitt didn't actually call the supercommittee incompetent, but he suggested it by saying Obama should've been holding their hands. Really? When are these happy to do-nothing Congress members going to get a clue?
He added, "I would have anticipated that the president of the United States would have spent every day and many nights working with members of the Super Committee trying to find a way to bridge the gap, but instead he's been out doing other things -- campaigning and blaming and traveling. This is, in my view, inexcusable." more at msnbc
Boston Globe: Romney Deleted Records From His Time as Governor
Conservatives are right about Mitt. The only question to be asked about a move such as this is what is he hiding?
The Globe reported on Thursday that 11 of Romney’s aides -- including his chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, and chief legal counsel – took the unusual step of buying 17 hard drives from the Massachusetts governor’s office, paying $65 for each one.
The Romney administration also wiped the server for the governor’s office and replaced the remaining computers in the office as they prepared to turn over power to Governor Deval Patrick, a Democrat.
As a result, Patrick’s office, which has been inundated with requests for records from the Romney era, has said that it has no emails from the Romney administration. Read more

Did Anyone Think the Supercommittee Would Succeed?
Congress is a useless government body in its current form. But I suppose it is a true reflection of the American people, entrenched in their left and right politics. No one is into negotiation anymore. People just want their way.
Though the supercommittee is set to fail -- deadline is today -- it probably won't matter much or it may be the best thing to happen.

Obama Meets with Prime Minister of China Wen
Diplomacy is key to the future of the U.S. It is a skill I'm afraid republicans lack. They don't seem to grasp global relations. Elect a republican president, get another war. Count on it.
As China’s wealth has grown, the country has made increasingly assertive claims about what parts of the sea it controls, challenging claims staked by countries like Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia.
A senior administration official who briefed reporters on Air Force One, said that President Obama had spoken about the dispute during the one-on-one meeting, but that China had also been forced to confront the issue during a final summit meeting with Asian leaders.
The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that of the nearly 20 leaders at the meeting, 16 voiced concerns about the South China Sea.
He said Mr. Wen at first seemed “maybe a little bit grouchy” about the confrontation, but then made statements that appeared to be less confrontational than in the past. What was interesting, the official said, was not what Mr. Wen said, but what he did not. Read more at NYT
