Stewart demonstrates how a rigid mind (O'Reilly's) only sees things from one point of view.

Maddow's Interview with Jon Stewart Video
Jon Stewart is sane. He is so sane.
On Fox, they've de-legitimized the idea of editorial authority while exercising incredible editorial authority, Stewart said. In other words, Fox exploits people of a certain ideology to make a profit while making its commentary appear legitimate.
Stewart says right and left, red states blue states, isn't the fight and the news networks have allowed the left right fight to go on and on.
"My problem is it's become tribal," he said. The point of the rally was to deflate the idea that we're red state, blue state, he said. It's a false fight. I 100% agree. He says we grant amnesty to people we agree with and demonize those we don't. You can find that any day on Twitter, especially yesterday on the debt cutting proposal.
The media exploits both sides, left and right to the detriment of the nation, which is why I don't watch any of them--except for Rachel Maddow and Morning Joe on occasion. I don't watch Olbermann, Schultz, O'Donnell, Limbaugh, Beck.... I want real news -- facts -- and then I want to be able to think for myself and form my own opinion without someone telling me what I should think. If I want analysis, I think Maddow is one of the smartest on the left and David Brooks is a smart one on the right.

Totally agree with Stewart on the word "teabagger." On this blog, I used to use the words wingnut and teabagger (they called themselves that in the beginning), but there came a point when I realized I was buying the nonsense. I never use either anymore.

Rally to Restore Sanity Oct. 30 Video
The sanest rally ever!
It's still live streaming until 3 pm eastern at cspan. The rally has been brilliant. There was a duel between the Peace Train and the Crazy Train, when Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) and Ozzy duked it out -- at the same time. Then the O Jays came out to perform the Love Train.

Jon Stewart: We are Not Fragile
On Fresh Air (listen here) Jon Stewart said he's more upset with an irresponsible and cowardly media than politicians. He says, and I'm paraphrasing, the media is supposed to give us fair and balanced and politicians are expected to be horrible beings. "When you go to the zoo and the monkey throws his feces. It's a monkey. But when the zookeeper is standing right there and he doesn't say: 'bad monkey' ... somebody's got to be the zookeeper."
He also said we need not fear Beck and Palin or their kind: "We are not fragile." Which is exactly right. Facts are, this country could withstand a president Palin. It is my hope that we have more common sense than to elect her in the first place.

On creating the show, Stewart says creativity comes from limits and structure, not freedom.

Jon Stewart on the Mosqueteers
Maureen Dowd, who usually spends her columns criticizing Obama from the left, had this to say today:
The bookstore gave the president a copy of “Freedom,” a new novel by Jonathan Franzen about a dysfunctional family in America. This is apt, since Obama is the head of the dysfunctional family of America — a rational man running a most irrational nation, a high-minded man in a low-minded age.
The country is having some weird mass nervous breakdown, with the right spreading fear and disinformation that is amplified by the poisonous echo chamber that is the modern media environment.
The dispute over the Islamic center has tripped some deep national lunacy. The unbottled anger and suspicion concerning ground zero show that many Americans haven’t flushed the trauma of 9/11 out of their systems — making them easy prey for fearmongers. NYT
This headline from ABC news is irrational: "Mosque Flap Tests Limits of US Tolerance." The media are rolling like pigs in mud. This has nothing to do with tolerance. Muslims didn't take down the twin towers. Al Qaeda did. It's not about tolerating a mosque.
Unfortunately, mainstream media has been dumbed down by all the idiocy of the internet. The nation is being led into the Fox News dungeon, where a religious war is their goal.
Frankly, I can't even bear to watch the evening news anymore. The Sunday political shows are starting to repulse me as well. Today, David Gregory perpetuated the idea that the mosque is okay but the location isn't okay. Not rational. Especially since Muslims already pray at Ground Zero.
Here is Jon Stewart on why the argument about the mosque is irrational:

Obama Frustrated Not Pleased With Closeness of Massachusetts Race

Jon Stewart Addresses Beck's Gold Motives
A month ago on Twitter, I suggested a member of the mainstream media ought to look into Beck's gold motives, as if anyone in the media would do an investigative piece. But it figures that Jon Stewart would be the one to cover it. I'm sure there's plenty more to this story if someone would dig deeper.
Glenn Beck on gold. I love the way he appeals to the older folks with fruit cellars:

Jon Stewart Roasts Republicans on Climate Change
It's fascinating to watch the republicans self implode.
I bet there is some sort of religious component as to why republicans deny climate change. God makes it that way and climate change is just a sign of the apocalypse.
Wingnuts don't "believe in" climate change but they believe in end times 2012. Sen. James Inhofe from Oklahoma calls global warming a hoax. Where are the legitimate republicans, other than the governor of California and Sen. Lindsey Graham, speaking out on climate change. Wingnuts have been fighting science altogether, a sorry trend in the republican party.
In other climate news, Obama rescheduled his trip to Copenhagen.
