Paul Krugman voiced that observation: The cultural right has taken over the economic right. This Week's roundtable was especially good this morning. And finally, some truth on the stimulus. Politics aside, the stimulus worked. More stimulus would've worked better.

Cynthia Tucker calls Michael Steele the republicans' "affirmative action hire gone bad." If you ask me, Steele represents exactly how republicans feel about non-whites.

Media Hype on Next Supreme Court Justice Pick

After watching Jon Kyl and Chuck Schumer discuss the selection of the next Justice, I came away thinking that it's the media is stirring up controversy on the replacement of Justice John Paul Stevens. Kyl all but rules out a filibuster. From everything that I've read, no matter who Obama chooses, the court can only become more conservative because Stevens was very liberal. And given Obama's choice of Sonia Sotomayor, it doesn't strike me that Obama is going to pick someone based on their ideology.

This Week roundtable discusses the next Justice. George Will says there will be no fight over Obama's choice and Arianna Huffington says there will be. Arianna, seeing through her very liberal eyes, didn't even hear what Kyl said this morning. Arianna's pick: Elizabeth Warren. Good grief. I like Warren's oversight work with TARP, but she's clearly not judge material. Some people only see the world through political ideological eyes and Arianna is one of those.

Republicans Go Around Steele With Shadow RNC

Republicans, reluctant to give money to the RNC, are going around Michael Steele to raise money. Now there is an organization called American Crossroads, which is raising money for midterms. Crossroads is backed by former RNC chair Ed Gillespie and Karl Rove. There are other shadow RNC organizations as well.

I don't understand why republicans don't just fire Steele. I imagine it's because he wouldn't go pretty. He'd go out stomping his feet, causing more troubles for the republicans. But it could be because the republicans are cowards. If Steele had a shred of dignity, he'd resign.

TAPPER: But, Karen, in addition this problem, tell our viewers what American Crossroads is.

FINNEY: So, American Crossroads is an organization that is being formed by, you know, Republican Party stalwarts like Karl Rove, Jo Ann Davidson, a former co-chair of the RNC, Ed Gillespie, among others, essentially with the goal of raising money to support candidates going into the next election.

TAPPER: It's a shadow RNC.

FINNEY: Exactly. And so when you have this -- and I -- you know, this is really not about the strip club expenditures. This is about a chairman who doesn't understand his job. And when you are the party out of power, your job is to raise money, to win elections, and build the party infrastructure.

On the one hand, when you talk to folks at some of the other Republican committees, sure, will the money help from the shadow RNC? Yes. But you need a strong RNC during a midterm election to do the ground game and to do GOTV activities. And it is an embarrassment for the Republican Party to have to talk about an expenditure. It's not just about going to strip clubs. It's about, when Michael Steele walks into a room with a donor and asks for a big check, and that donor is looking at an FEC report that shows travel on jets and travel in limousines, what am I giving you the money for? TAPPER: What would the bill do for Natoma?

OBAMA: Well what would have happened is that Natoma would have been able to be part of this exchange, this marketplace that gave her a choice of plans just like members of Congress have but, because she’d be a part of a million people who are in a pool, her rates would be lowered and so you wouldn’t have seen her being put into a choice where she’s got to chose between her house or her healthcare. And that’s true for self employed, for small businesses, for individuals all across the country.

JAKE: But if the bill, let’s say the bill passes this week and it becomes the law of the land, how does it affect her?

OBAMA: Well what would happen now, is obviously with a preexisting condition, she’d have even more trouble getting health insurance now, in fact she probably couldn’t even get the old policy, even if she was willing to pay for it at these higher rates. But now because of the rules insurance companies would have to take people with preexisting conditions and that would help folks, obviously, in Natoma’s position. Read the rest

We Are Screwed

After seeing Jake Tapper's report on people angry about Obama's speech to school children, it's clear that the minority wingnuts rule this country. These people are outright thugs, carrying guns to town halls, comparing Obama to Hitler.
The racist rightwing is having all kinds of troubles coping with an Obama presidency. No matter what he does, the rightwing distorts it, lies about it, exaggerates. What's worse is the media reports it and validates the wingnuts.

When is the media going to wake up and realize that it's RACISM driving the rightwing. Hello! They have no legitimate complaints. If they did, they'd be speaking out like adults.
And what about the rest of us?

It appears that the racists are now the majority in this country. Do Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity really rule? Where is the fairness and balance in the media? Why do we have to see racist wingnuts every single day, complaining about this and that? Why are their voices getting heard above everyone else's?

Obama More Successful Battling Terrorists Than Bush-Cheney

Responding to criticism from former Vice President Cheney that President Obama is making the nation more vulnerable to terrorism, the president’s National Security Adviser, Gen. Jim Jones (Ret.), told ABC News in an exclusive interview that actually the reverse is true: President Obama’s greater success with international relations has meant more terrorists put out of commission.
“This type of radical fundamentalism or terrorism is a threat not only to the United States but to the global community,” Jones said. “The world is coming together on this matter now that President Obama has taken the leadership on it and is approaching it in a slightly different way – actually a radically different way – to discuss things with other rulers to enhance the working relationships with law enforcement agencies – both national and international."

Jake Tapper points out that Jim Jones doesn't provide any numbers. I don't know why Tapper doesn't do that. That would be something to follow up on. I guess he's just lazy:

The former Marine General didn't provide any specific numbers to back up his claim, but he said “there is an increasing trend and I think we seen that in different parts of the world over the last few months for sure.” He added that he was not “making a tally sheet saying we are killing more people, capturing more people than they did -- that is not the issue.”

Jones objects to Cheney's assertion:

“Obviously the former Vice President feels strongly about certain things,” Jones said, “I don’t know if it is a question of legacy.” “I take exception” to assertions “that something that we decided or the president decided will make the country less safe,” Jones said. “I just don’t agree with that. We are about making this country safe. I think that we are fashioning global relationships with other countries around the world.”

Media Protests Not Being Able to Cover Beer Summit

Jake Tapper has a self important moment in this video. What the media really wants is to be in on the summit, to hear the conversation, otherwise, they say, it's not a "teachable moment." They're only getting 40 seconds to take a photograph.
Good grief. This has all been blown so far out of proportion as far as stupid coverage. Then tomorrow I'm sure we'll have exclusive interviews of Gates and Crowley talking about their conversation with Obama, or speculation on what they talked about. What about health care? Why doesn't some media outfit analyze and give us bullet points on the various health reform bills in committee. Huh? What about that? Let's get back to that.

Jake Tapper Follows CNN on Biden Story

Jake Tapper at ABC, completely biased against Obama, had to follow the CNN story that the media's forgotten Joe, to which I say, this is terrific news! Biden is getting to the people he needs to reach -- the people. The media needs to keep vetting Palin, whose bubble is about to burst. 

ABC's Jake Tapper Defends Jerome Corsi

This is bias at work. 

Jake Tapper is on my anti-Obama biased media list (in my sidebar). It's interesting to read his blog because he always manages to taint the news. 

Today, he manages to defend Corsi. It's almost like he's working out a personal vendetta against Obama and he reaches today. He didn't start out covering the campaign that way. It morphed. Perhaps it draws more readers. Perhaps he was a Hillary supporter.

Reading the comments, it looks like there are many people who don't see Jerome Corsi as a dangerous man. 

To me, it doesn't seem anyone should be defending a noted bigot. It seems Corsi should be publicly humiliated. Tapper should be as well for validating Corsi. 

I wouldn't even pick up Corsi's book, knowing that the man who wrote it is a bigot and has an agenda. But to defend it, to SEEK a grain of truth within the book, that's despicable. 
A little on Corsi:

Actually, it's a little darker than that. Corsi doesn't just belong to the right's conspiratorial wing, he belongs to its racist, white-supremacist fringe. Over the last couple of years, he's written disparagingly about Muslims, Catholics and Jews, not to mention gays and lesbians. Muslims are "ragheads," the pope is "senile" and tolerates "boy bumping," and Jews ... well, you can imagine. Corsi looked beleaguered but respectable this week when he appeared on CNN's "Larry King Live," but it would be far more instructive if his prospective readers could hear him Sunday, when he's scheduled to appear on "The Political Cesspool," a "pro-white" radio program that endorses the so-called neo-Confederate movement's belief that secession is the right of every American state, promotes the notion that "the United States is a Christian nation" and "opposes all efforts to mix the races of mankind."

Let's see ... Barack Obama's father was ... and his mother was ... hmmm.
