Chuck Hagel to Keynote Democratic Convention?

Update: Chuck Hagel says he's not endorsing either candidate and won't be in the country for either convention. So I'd say that's a pretty solid no to convention, no to vp.
Update 8-11: Looks like Obama could go for a national security pro

Hagel, Obama and Reed

Sen. Joe Lieberman and Sen. John Kerry hash it out on Meet the Press this morning.
They started with McCain's juvenile ads.

Lieberman says the ads are funny and cute. Lieberman is creepy. He's this guy who claims he's a democrat and he's supporting McCain. He's like the PUMAs. Wacky.
Kerry said the problem is McCain can't win on issues so they're going to attack Obama's character.

Lieberman was persistent in the lie that oil drilling will lower gas prices.
Lieberman said Obama on oil was maybe, if, and, but. His strong argument against Obama's stance confirmed that Obama is still against offshore drilling.

Obama confounded people this past weekend when he suggested he might support bipartisan legislation that would allow some drilling while requiring autos to run on alternative fuels in 20 years.

Lieberman just went blah, blah, blah McCain adopted a baby from Bangladesh blah blah he's not bigoted and Kerry was a push over. I respect John Kerry. I voted for him. But I see why he lost.

I had to turn the channel - to Fox News. Ugh.

There they were asking: why doesn't Obama want more debates? BORING.

Here's what I think is going to happen at the debates -- the whole be careful for what you wish for scenario. McCain keeps hounding  Obama to do town halls with him, to do more debates. Well, when the time comes and wits are matched, no drama Obama and grumpy McCain will shine through and the debates will seal the deal. Obama will wallop McCain.

The result will be like when McCain was hounding Obama to go to Iraq. Obama went to Iraq then some. McCain got jealous and then went negative. The debates will show true colors all around.

McCain's goons are out in full force this morning. "Barack Obama doesn't want to be tested," said Sen. Lindsey Graham. Obama is running out the clock. "Lead don't talk. Get your hands dirty," he said, throwing up his hands in an emotional tirade.

Back to Meet the Press. The only other nugget: Chuck Todd says republican and Obama supporter, Chuck Hagel, will be keynoter at convention. Hillary will speak at the convention but she won't give the main speech.
