We Are Screwed

After seeing Jake Tapper's report on people angry about Obama's speech to school children, it's clear that the minority wingnuts rule this country. These people are outright thugs, carrying guns to town halls, comparing Obama to Hitler.
The racist rightwing is having all kinds of troubles coping with an Obama presidency. No matter what he does, the rightwing distorts it, lies about it, exaggerates. What's worse is the media reports it and validates the wingnuts.

When is the media going to wake up and realize that it's RACISM driving the rightwing. Hello! They have no legitimate complaints. If they did, they'd be speaking out like adults.
And what about the rest of us?

It appears that the racists are now the majority in this country. Do Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity really rule? Where is the fairness and balance in the media? Why do we have to see racist wingnuts every single day, complaining about this and that? Why are their voices getting heard above everyone else's?

Ignore or Defend Conservative Criticism?

In an online chat with Chuck Todd, someone asked how Obama can counter the outrageous claims made by conservatives. I think "conservatives" is a nice--and wrong--word for them. Chuck said the Obama administration tends to ignore them at first and then ends up defending itself. True.

The White House ignores the criticism at first because it seems so outlandish that no one would believe it. Then a funny thing happens, conservatives spread emails like wildfire and people believe it. It's mass paranoia about socialism. The right has become extreme.

People believed that Obama ordered lobster in Bozeman, Montana. They believed in death panels. They believe that Obama is indoctrinating youth into his socialist plot with his back-to-school speech.

Sounds crazy to you and me. Yet there are bunches of people who believe this stuff. Look at Glenn Beck, who's practically having a meltdown before our eyes. He says all this ridiculous stuff. Yesterday it was communist art on the NBC building. And people believe it! These people are clearly suffering some sort of mass delusion. Does the Internet help spread psychosis too? I think so.

What I wonder: is the rightwing opposition to health reform bigger than the support for health reform? The way it's portrayed in the media, it seems like everybody in your neighborhood is a rightwing kook.

If You're Wingnut Weary Read this

I've realized, I'm wingnut weary.

I'm tired of them and all their gross exaggerations and their lies and their pushiness and hostility and hate and anger and selfishness. I'm tired of their infatuation with guns. I'm tired of their ignorance.

Democrats need to rally the courage of their convictions. We voted for health reform and now a bunch of misbehaved bad apples are spoiling everything because they happen to be whinier and squeakier than everyone else. Wingnuts are having troubles coming to grips with a changing nation. But that's their problem, even though they act like it's ours.

They had their years and their chances.

I remember as a child I was not allowed to watch Hogan’s Heroes. It wasn’t a joke in my house. There was nothing funny about prisoner of war camps. There were no handsome well-fed prisoners with secret tunnels under their bunks, and pirate radio equipment who always managed to play their captors for the fool. I am tired of people comparing Obama to Hitler. I am tired of seeing signs with swastikas and nazi symbols at health care rallies. I am tired of people saying that a health care plan designed to uplift millions of Americans to give them dignity, and choice and the ability to care for their families, is like Naziism.
