President Obama and his family are worshiping this Easter Sunday at Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, a 2,500-member congregation in the poorest section of the nation's capital.
White House officials said that Allen Chapel, in Southeast Washington, was selected because the church has more than 50 programs that reach deep into the community that include an after-school tutorial program, a ministry to help ex-convicts reenter the community and a food pantry that helps hundreds of families each week.
"I can't even get into the parking lot of the church on Wednesday, so many people are coming for food," said the Rev. Michael Bell, the church's pastor. "In Ward 8 there is a 28 percent unemployment rate." Read more at WaPo

Obama's Quest for A Church
Obama should just worship at home, given all the flack he'll get for choosing one church over another. At the same time, he's being criticized for not actually physically going to a church, as if that matters, so it's a no-win situation.
Wash Times: With Easter four days away, the Great Church Search is on for the Obamas, who are seeking a presidential place of worship in Washington nearly a year after a divisive break from their Chicago church and the incendiary sermons of its controversial pastor.
White House aides and close friends of the family have been quietly checking out D.C. churches on a shortlist - maybe a dozen in all - and attending services, speaking with pastors, reverends and rectors and reporting back to the Obamas, said one White House source familiar with the search.
