Republicans: Country Last

The republicans drop Country First and instead go for Country Last. The Palin-McCain distraction campaign is in overdrive and for anyone out there who's falling for their lipstick and fish talking points, know that you're being had.

Obama Talks Lipstick and Pigs on Letterman Tonight

Politico: A partial transcript:

LETTERMAN: Let me ask you a question here, have you ever actually put lipstick on pig?

OBAMA: The answer would be no. But I think it might be fun to try .... This is sorta silly season in politics. Not that there's a non silly season but it gets sillier . It's a common expression in at least illinois. I don't know about in New York City. I don't know what you put lipstick on here. (Silly cringe from Letterman. Laughter from audience) In Illinois, The expression connotes the idea that if you have a bad idea -- in this case I was talking about McCain's economic plans -- calling them 'change,' calling them something different doesn't make them better. Hence lipstick on a pig is still a pig.
He then added that Palin represented the lipstick in the picture, with McCain's policies as the pig.

That's so perfect. Ms. Mooseburger is dressing up McCain's losing policies. Obama's got some other zingers on Letterman.

Obama Get in the Mud With the Pigs

We won't mind.
The out of control lying on behalf of the Palin-McCain campaign cannot be beat without some fierce mudslinging. Or can it? I'm on the fence on this one.
Here's someone who's not:
The Root: This is not a civics seminar; it's a knife fight, and the McCain camp is bringing automatic rifles.

Right now it is not about the American people getting it. It is about Obama getting it. He's getting hit over the head with a baseball bat and looking like he wants to file an amicus brief about it.

It would be silly to count out the Obama strategists; they have defied every prediction and surpassed every expectation thus far. But watching the Obama response to the Sarah Palin frenzy, conjures up sad images of John Kerry, Al Gore, or, dare we say it, Michael Dukakis.

Once again, we have Democratic dignity on display. They are taking the high road, constantly acknowledging John McCain's honorable service to the nation and saying that Sarah Palin is a tough and talented politician.

Meanwhile, on the low road and on their high horse, Republicans are making minced moose meat out of Obama. In 30 brutal minutes during the Republican Convention last week, Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin took Obama's anti-elitist, street cred and turned it against him.

Obama: You Can't Put Lipstick on a Pig

Obama makes a funny. I say since the bridge to nowhere lie persists, and Palin-McCain have cranked out another nasty ad, nothing wrong with a little metaphor. Apparently, this one has Ms. Ding Dong Ditch in an uproar:
Swamp: In suburban Detroit, Obama said perplexed that the Republicans were trying to take away his mantra of change.

"How do they have the nerve to say it?" Obama asked. "When you've been supporting this current president, your party has been in power, and you're not offering anything new, how is it that you're serious about change? You're not. It's empty words. You're just saying it because you realize, 'Obama has been talking about change. That seems to be working. Maybe we should try to say it too.'"

And in Lebanon, Virginia, he said, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," as laughter erupted. "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, but it's still going to stink after eight years."

It should be noted that during the Republican primary, McCain compared former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney to a pig.

I can't believe I missed that one today. I'll dig up some video if I can.
