The Fix: On the heels of a new Washington Post-ABC News poll that showed Barack Obama leading John McCain 52 percent to 43 percent nationally, the Arizona senator's campaign convened a conference call today insisting that the survey was an "outlier".
Bill McInturff, the lead pollster for McCain, insisted that the campaign's internal data showed none of the "volatility" present in recent public polling, arguing that the race has been within the margin of error for the last several weeks.
At the crux of McInturff's argument was the fact that the Democratic party identification in the Post poll was 16 points higher than the Republican identification -- a far larger margin than the Democratic ID edge in other recent public polling.

McCain Camp: ABC WaPo Poll and Outlier
Another poll today, the Diageo/Hotline poll had similar results, Obama up 6. I don't understand why the McCain camp would bother to dispute the poll. Interesting. The Obama camp disregards polling, their eye on the ball. National polls are irrelevant unless the trend changes, which it has. Maybe that's why the McCain camp is getting scared.

Poll: Obama Strongest Leader

new abc-washington post poll shows obama has a 10 point lead over hillary when those surveyed were asked who they'd like to see run against mccain.
it appears that hillary's smear campaign is backfiring: 54%, up from 40% after new hampshire.
with that bit of news, it will be fun to see obama take on annie oakley and her bitterness tonight in the debate -- 8 pm eastern time!
abc: The poll finds other pronounced problems for Clinton. Among all Americans, 58 percent now say she's not honest and not trustworthy, 16 points higher than in a precampaign poll two years ago. Obama beats her head-to-head on this attribute by a 23-point margin.
The number of Americans who see Clinton unfavorably overall has risen to a record high in ABC/Post polling, 54 percent -- up 14 points since January. Obama's unfavorable score has reached a new high as well, up 9 points, but to a lower 39 percent.
