Romney's FEMA Acrobatics

Romney jumps from here to there and everywhere on every issue. The only way to know what Romney would actually do is to look at the people who brung him to the dance: The Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Big Business.... What do they want? They want to be able to do business with as little regulations as possible. They have no concern for climate change or the welfare of people. They care about profits. Sheldon wants a strike on Iran. The tea party and the right wing, which make up the GOP these days, want a government like we've never known it to be. I'm all for smaller government, but I'd much rather see us preserve safety nets.
“I believe that FEMA plays a key role in working with states and localities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters,” he said. “As president, I will ensure FEMA has the funding it needs to fulfill its mission, while directing maximum resources to the first responders who work tirelessly to help those in need, because states and localities are in the best position to get aid to the individuals and communities affected by natural disasters.”

But during a GOP primary debate sponsored by CNN in June 2011, Romney was specifically asked about FEMA’s role in the government and whether states should play a larger role in disaster response. ABC
