After video surfaced of Van Jones calling the republicans a choice word, Jones really had no other choice but to resign. As someone in a position of power, you just can't go around saying such things, as satisfying and true as they are. It's a wonder, really, that Jones got through the vetting process:
An environmental adviser for President Barack Obama, Van Jones, has resigned amid controversy over past inflammatory statements, the White House said early Sunday. What's poor Glenn Beck to do now? Van Jones was his man. Fear not, the rightwing will not rest. They're bent on clearing out all of the so-called "radicals" in Obama's administration. These people are busy, busy, busy. Man, they're good.
Van Jones, an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly "green jobs," has been linked to efforts suggesting a government role in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and to derogatory comments about Republicans. Read more at MSNBC
"On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me," Jones, special adviser for green jobs at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, said in a statement announcing his resignation just after midnight Saturday. "They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide."
He continued: "I have been inundated with calls -- from across the political spectrum -- urging me to 'stay and fight.' But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future." WaPo
