NPR: The Pentagon announced Monday it will be sending almost 6,000 troops to Afghanistan by January -- forces that were originally slated to head to Iraq.
About 2,000 Marines will be the first to arrive in November, including a battalion of ground forces out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. The troops were originally supposed to head to Anbar province in Iraq.
