McCain Suspends Campaign

Update 3: This is rich. McCain to be outed for his stunt. Harry Reid says we need leadership not a photo op.
Update 2: Obama says he can swing working on the bailout and the debate. The debate is on. McCain is in over his head (I say that.)
Update: Obama actually initiated this in the morning but McCain decided to look good and make an announcement.
NPR: At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal. At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama's call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details.

Original post:
McCain suspends his campaign to work on the bailout and calls on Obama to do the same. Good one. Actually, it's a good idea. But -- why do they need to suspend the campaign? Obama and McCain can work on the bailout, while the campaign teams campaign.

Nice gesture, I think. But it reeks of a political ploy and maybe he's hoping for some more prep time for the debate, since this could move the debate to next week.

I think McCain ought to just end his campaign for the good of the country. Get out of the way of progress.
