historian alan schroeder discusses why mccain wants to have town hall debates. obama has been open to the idea.
schroeder says obama is not a natural debater. wrong. i think that obama has always tempered himself with hillary, not wanting to tear down a fellow democrat.
schroeder says mccain might have trouble with his temper. given his tuesday night speech, i'd say he'll have more troubles than that. apparently, though, mccain is a better town haller and obama is the better rallier.
if we're talking content of the debate, obama wins hands down. mccain has nothing to say that's relevant to anyone.
the general consensus seems to be that mccain would have the advantage and would try to force obama to say something bitter.
i'd much rather see citizens asking dumb questions as opposed to moderators asking dumb questions. maybe we'll even get citizens asking smart questions and imagine how exciting that might be!
