the debate is being held in austin this thursday ahead of the texas primary march 4. it will be streamed live on cnn.com

More than 26,000 voters are hoping to win a ticket to see the Democratic debate in Austin next week, and it's no secret the March 4 Texas primary is crucial for the Clinton campaign.

KXAN Austin News' Ellen McNamara hit the street to find out what issues are crucial to Texas voters.

Candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton already have campaign ads in Texas, and leading up to the debate, as well as up to the primary, you'll see and hear them both across our state.

Before the debate though, McNamara wanted to examine their stances on key issues that are important to people in Austin.

"Definitely the economy, I would say it seems as though the recession that we seem to be going into is so complicated that we need someone who can sort of figure out a really intelligent plan to get out of it," said voter Adam Schwiters.

Clinton has a $70 billion plan to jump start the economy. She plans to repeal the Bush tax cuts for homes earning more than $250,000. About $30 billion of the $70 billion plan would help states and cities fight the foreclosure problem.

Obama also would repeal the Bush tax cuts for homes earning more than $250,000. He plans to raise capital gains taxes, but would cut $80 billion in taxes. One tax elimination would be for elderly workers making less than $50,000. KXAN
