The event, featuring Bob Dylan, will be live streamed at WhiteHouse.gov at s 5:15 pm eastern. Obama will speak before the event.

The 2010 White House Music Series begins on Wednesday, February 10th, when the President and First Lady will host "In Performance at the White House: A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement" - a concert celebrating Black History month. Participants include Natalie Cole, Bob Dylan, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, John Mellencamp, Smokey Robinson, Seal, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Howard University Choir and others. Morgan Freeman and Queen Latifah will serve as emcees for this concert which will feature songs from the Civil Rights Movement as well as readings from famous Civil Rights speeches and writings....
As part of this special event, Mrs. Obama will host "Music that Inspired the Movement," a workshop that several of the event's performers will lead for 120 high school students from across the country on Wednesday, February 10th from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET. The students will come to learn about the continuing relevance of music from the Civil Rights Movement to today's generation and its original impact in the 1960s. This event will be streamed live on www.whitehouse.gov and students all over the country will be invited to watch and engage in the workshop.

In a continuing music series at the White House, tonight is Latin music night. Live streaming now. (7:30 eastern) In the house, the Obama family, First grandma Marian Robinson, Ken Salazar, Sonia Sotomayor and Hilda Solis. Celebs: Jimmy Smits, Eva Longoria, George Lopez, Marc Anthony and JLo. Other performers: Los Lobos and Marc Anthony.
That was a great show--I love Latin music and Sheila E!, having done a little drumming myself. At the end of the show, Malia Obama danced with Michelle on stage and then took up the drums next to Sheila E. She looked like she knew what she was doing. Sasha danced with Pop. Eva Longoria escorted Justice Sonia Sotomayor on stage to dance.

Country Music Night at the White House

"Now, I know folks think I'm a city boy, but I do appreciate listening to country music," President Barack Obama said to guests gathered in the East Room for a performance by country musicians Alison Krauss and Union Station.
Brad Paisley and country music legend Charley Pride also entertained the audience, which included first lady Michelle Obama, Cabinet secretaries and lawmakers.
The president, whose hometown is Chicago, said the genre has helped to make Americans more hopeful. "It's captured our restlessness and resilience, and told so much of our story in the process," he said.
The performance, along with a morning workshop for students, was the second in a music series that Mrs. Obama launched last month to encourage arts and arts education. The first session was devoted to jazz. A classical music workshop is planned for the fall. Read more at AP

Today, Michelle Obama announced a White House music series, which will feature jazz, country and classical music. Tonight, it's jazz night at the White House.

Local DC students and performers were invited. Some of the performers: Paquito D’Rivera, Zach Brown, Kush Abadey, Elijah Easton and Tony Madruga and his ensemble.

Michelle Obama Announces White House Music Series June 15

Now that First Lady Michelle Obama has returned to the United States, she plans to kick off a new music series next week, according to the White House.

The first installment, set for Monday, will feature members of the Marsalis family (father Ellis and two of his sons, Wynton and Branford), who will play jazz for about 150 students. The White House also said that country and classical events will be scheduled. NYT
