A top adviser to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned the Bush administration that its use of “cruel, inhuman or degrading” interrogation techniques like waterboarding were “a felony war crime.”
What’s more, newly obtained documents reveal that State Department counselor Philip Zelikow told the Bush team in 2006 that using the controversial interrogation techniques were “prohibited” under U.S. law — “even if there is a compelling state interest asserted to justify them.” More at Wired

MEMO: Bush Warned Waterboarding Was a War Crime
I'm not a GWB basher, but on the front of invading the wrong country and torturing in the name of the US, GWB made the wrong decisions, surely influenced by Cheney, the man without morals. It set our country back. Torture is what less enlightened nations and people do. Furthermore, it doesn't even work. There are ultimate truths that can't be fudged. No matter who the enemy is, torture is immoral and causes more harm than good.
