This is not a company in danger of going bankrupt.
In business, when a company goes through a hardship, such as the one BP is facing, brought on by its own negligence, the value of its stock goes down. It happens. It happens all the time. That doesn't mean the company is going to close.
The administration needs to put the screws to BP so that it pays EVERYTHING. It caused the mess and for once, a company needs to be held fully responsible.
BP's rig explosion killed 11 people. It has killed wildlife and sea life. Who knows what the long term effects will be?
Now people, such as Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, are calling for the Obama administration to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling as soon possible. We NEED oil. When it comes to oil, we are crackheads. Louisiana's economy also depends on oil drilling.
Landrieu pointed out this morning--unless people are willing to park their cars, drilling needs to resume.
Why can't we have a conservation plan? Why can't we use less oil? Oh, that's right, conservation isn't part of our plan. I'm sure the moratorium will be lifted soon.
The Obama administration is being blamed for not doing enough and at the same it is being blamed for doing too much.
It's crazy stupid out there.
Here's how the media could make itself useful. Go to each of the oil companies and question their safety plans. Ask them about the safety of their rigs. Ask them if they're prepared for a BP like disaster. Get them on record.
