Netanyahu Backs Out of Nuclear Summit

Obama is hosting a nuclear summit with world leaders next week, but Israel doesn't want to have to answer questions about its unofficial nuclear weapons program. Nice. When you stop and think about it, we humans are absurd. Here we are wielding weapons that could wipe out millions. Really, how ludicrous is that?

ABC News' Kirit Radia reports: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled a trip to Washington next week where he was to attend President Obama’s Nuclear Security Summit, an Israeli official tells ABC News.

The official could not say why Netanyahu decided not to come at the last minute, but Reuters reports that the Israelis were upset upon learning that Egypt and Turkey planned to raise the issue of Israel’s officially unacknowledged nuclear weapons program.

Earlier this week the White House confirmed that Netanyahu was among 47 world leaders who would be attending the meeting, during which Obama hopes to gain assurances from countries they will tamp down on loose nuclear material and work to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons technology. ABC
