Soldier Opens Fire on Fellow Soldiers in Baghdad

This is sad. Stress? Too soon to jump to conclusions, though the shooting did take place at a stress clinic.
A U.S. soldier opened fire on fellow troops at one of the main U.S. bases in Baghdad on Monday, killing five, the U.S. military said..

"The shooter is a U.S. soldier and he is in custody," said Marine Corps Lieutenant Tom Garnett, a U.S. military spokesman in Iraq.

U.S. officials plan to charge the shooter later today.

The shooting took place around 2 p.m. local time (8:00 a.m. EDT) at Camp Liberty, a sprawling, dusty base located next to the Baghdad airport.

"This is certainly an unexpected and tragic event," said Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman. Reuters
Update: response from Obama:
resident Obama was shocked and saddened to hear about the incident and planned to discuss the issue with Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Monday afternoon, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said.

"The president's heart goes out to the families and friends of all the service members involved in this horrible tragedy. He was shocked by the news of this incident and will press to ensure that we fully understand what happened at the clinic and that we are doing everything we can to ensure that our men and women in uniform are protected," Gibbs said.

The incident happened at Camp Liberty's stress clinic, where U.S. service members are treated for psychological conditions, the sources said. CNN
