Fewer Americans Belong to Organized Religion

This seems like a good trend to me.
Religious people have used their religion as a sword, as a means to be self-righteous, which isn't exactly welcoming.
Perverted priests didn't help get the message of love out either, neither do the high profile religious types, who have fallen one by one from their perch. Poor Ted Haggard can't even be who he is.
Instead of practicing the tenets of their religion, many choose to practice righteousness. If you look at the people who consider themselves religious, the evangelicals for example, they spend a lot of time "witnessing" and trying to spread their religion instead of living their faith.
Religious people would find the trend away from organized religion dangerous because they don't believe people can be moral without religion.
They spend a lot of time frowning upon other people's religions instead of realizing that all religions have the same purpose.
They spend a lot of time opposing stem cells, gay people and abortion in the most obnoxious way possible. If they were truly religious, they wouldn't be calling Obama the abortion president. They'd engage him in conversation and try to enlighten him.
But that's not their fight. Their fight is largely with themselves.
They would rather be right so they're always trying to prove it.
If only people practiced their religions, we'd live in a wonderful world. That is my religious rant for the day.
