Obama Signs Bill Expanding Healthcare for Children

This is good, Obama says. It is indeed. Despite nominee tax issues, Obama is doing a terrific job fixing Bush's sprawling mess. The bill covers an additional 4 million children, 11 million altogether, a down payment on coverage for all Americans, Obama said. He also gets tough on republican criticisms, rejecting their constant, whining call for tax cuts as their solution to everything. "I reject these theories and by the way so did the American people when they went to the polls in November and voted resoundingly for change."

The insurance is paid for with cigarette taxes:
The new law pays for the expanded coverage by raising federal tobacco taxes 61 cents per pack. That brings the total federal tax to $1.01 per pack. All 50 states have their own tobacco taxes, averaging $1.19 per pack, but ranging from $0.07 in South Carolina to $2.75 per pack in New York, according to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
