Politico: “White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel today said that President Obama will meet with House Republicans next week to discuss the alternatives developed by the working group led by Republican Whip Eric Cantor to help our economy save and create jobs,” said Michael Steel, spokesman for Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio). “No specifics in terms of time or place for the meeting have been set.”
Republicans have rejected the $825 billion package of tax cuts and federal spending House Democrats introduced last week because, in their eyes, it doesn't do enough to spur job growth this year.
"After thoughtful deliberations, we are ready to present our principles to you to continue the dialogue we started at the beginning of this year," a group of Republican leaders wrote the president a day after his historic inauguration.
