Announcements: Obama is traveling next week. On Aug. 9 he'll be at Interstate Moving Service in Springfield, Va. On Aug 11, he'll tour Johnson Controls Inc. in Holland, Mich.

White House Press Briefing July 26

There is no wiggle room on the drop dead Aug. 2 deadline. Jay Carney says Boehner's bill won't pass the Senate and therefore would never make it to Obama's desk. Read the Reid plan and the Boehner plan here. Republicans to the right of Boehner are opposed to his plan, so is the CBO.

White House Press Briefing July 21

Jay Carney squashed the rumors of a deal: "There is no deal. We're not close to a deal."
Carney also said the debt ceiling will be raised. The question is what will the deficit deal look like?
Carney also said there was some unfortunate headlines yesterday. Obama is still opposed to short term lifting of the debt ceiling. Period. If there is a deal and it's in place and agreed upon and Congress needs take a few days to wrap up details, that would be okay.
Carney cleans up some of the confusion out there on the debt ceiling and the deficit deal.

White House Press Briefing July 14

Jay Carney says the White House appreciates that Mitch McConnell's proposal acknowledges that the debt ceiling must be raised. Carney lists the number of times the republican "leaders" have voted in the past to raise the debt ceiling.
