Clooney: Obama Will Appoint Darfur Envoy

I tend to dismiss most actor/activists, but Clooney is credible. He says we need someone working everyday in Darfur to bring peace.
Politico: Actor George Clooney emerged from an Oval Office meeting with President Barack Obama Monday night to say the White House will appoint an envoy to Darfur, the Sudanese region ravaged by war and famine.

“They said they would appoint a full-time, high-level envoy that would report directly to the White House,” Clooney told reporters. "This would be a huge policy step."

Of the Obama administration's commitment to Darfur, Clooney said, "It's good to hear because there was some concern that this could fall off the radar."

The White House didn’t respond immediately to a request for comment on Clooney’s remarks — which amounted to a highly unconventional, and seemingly ad-hoc way of revealing Obama’s thinking about such a key foreign policy decision.

Clooney, who has traveled to the region repeatedly, said the administration “assured me that Darfur is one of a small handful of foreign policy reviews being taken at the senior-most level.”

In separate meetings with Obama, then Vice President Joe Biden, Clooney asked them to make Darfur one of their top priorities and to appoint an envoy. "They assured me and wanted me to assure the rest of whoever it is that is listening that this is high on their agenda," Clooney said.

New Obama Smears: Clooney and Plane

Here's one about Clooney advising Obama on foreign policy. People call Obama supporters gullible. I like George Clooney but even I know better than to think he's an expert on foreign policy. Anyone who'd think this is plainly ignorant.
Politico: Anyone looking for a good reason why the mainstream media took so long to get onboard with the tabloid-sourced news about John Edwards’ affair need only look to a story that ran this week about Barack Obama and actor George Clooney.

According to the story that ran Tuesday in the Daily Mail, a notorious British tabloid, Obama has exchanged e-mails, phone calls and text messages with Clooney, who was supposedly advising the candidate on everything from body language to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Obama-Clooney story was concocted from anonymous sources. Yet it spread throughout the world within hours. It was quickly picked up by The Drudge Report and television networks ranging from Fox News to NBC. The overall result served to bolster Republican candidate John McCain’s dubious contention that his rival Obama is a vapid “celebrity” rather than presidential material.

Clooney responded to the article with humor: “"I have never texted or e-mailed Sen. Obama,” he said in a statement. “And I'll offer a million dollars to anyone who could prove otherwise.
Here's another smear that's been going around about Obama's plane -- that Obama removed the flag from the tail. He removed it from the tail but there is a flag on the side. McCain's plane has no flag on the tail either. Can these folks get any more desperate?

The people who believe these kinds of things are the people who are buying the anti-Obama book, just looking for something to hold on to, something that will validate their hate.

Here's a factcheck and some photos. John McCain's plane doesn't look any more patriotic to me.
