The soldier apparently was having marital problems. Not a good reason to shoot up 16 innocent people.
My only trouble with the death penalty for the soldier is you can't train people to legally kill other people and then expect them to rein themselves in when they have access to weapons and mental health issues. Of course, I don't support the death penalty for anyone.
