Obama's Town Hall on the Early Show May 12 Video

A woman named Karen, very pregnant, says she and her husband are in the middle of building a house, and she's being laid off by the government, the national zoo, where she thought she was secure, and she goes on to ask the president what she should do, which made me want to puke. I know. Not the reaction I should probably have. But welcome to life spoiled Americans! Some of us have never owned a home and NO JOB IS SECURE. EVER. In this regard I'm with some of these conservative folks--why do you expect so much from your government?
And another thing, addressing another question asked, most Americans don't seem to understand how business and the marketplace works. Companies don't hire people because they have cash on the books or because their stock is up. They hire based on demand for their goods and services. Right now, demand for goods and services is down relative to the boom times because people are paying down debts and paying off their credit cards (hopefully). They just don't have the disposable income to go out and spend. So it's like this, companies won't hire until consumers start buying more, and consumers won't start buying more until companies start hiring. But I do think one thing is for sure, companies need to start raising wages for folks. It's time now.
Don't get me started on mortgages.
