Michelle Obama Gives Commencement at D.C. Charter School June 3

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 8, 2009) – Washington Mathematics Science Technology Public Charter School (WMST PCHS), a leading public charter school serving the nation’s capital, announced today that First Lady Michelle Obama will speak at the 2009 WMST PCHS Graduation on June 3 at 10 a.m.

The two-hour ceremony will take place at Cramton Auditorium at Howard University in Washington, D.C. when 95 WMST PCHS seniors will receive their high school diplomas. In the weeks leading up to the ceremony, the students have been anxiously awaiting news about their acceptance at outstanding colleges and universities.

“President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are very supportive of public charter schools as key components to educational reform and making our next generation more competitive in the global marketplace,” said Mark Holbrook, head of school of WMST PCHS. “We are honored that the First Lady will speak at our graduation, and we appreciate her interest in our school and our students’ educational accomplishments.”
