The Ted (Technology, Entertainment and Design) Conference, which ends today, is an annual affair now in Long Beach, California that brings together the thinkers and idea people of the world.
Novelist Isabel Allende says what matters most is a passionate heart. Nice people don't make interesting characters, she says. They only make good former spouses. Allende riffs on Sophia Loren, which is quite funny. She also gets serious about feminism in the world and says prosperous women means prosperous nations. Real change needs a feminine energy. Sherwin Nuland talks about the U.S. being the healer of the world, which sounds lofty and admirable, and is certainly better than spreading democracy to countries that aren't ready, but it's still too egotistical. The U.S. is going to need healing from other nations.
