Ebony's Obama issue will be out Dec. 9. What cover hasn't Obama been on?
From Ebony: He did it! Barack Obama has rightfully earned the historic title of President-elect! Ebony magazine conducted the first interview and photo shoot with “Mr. President” since his Nov. 4 victory. The exclusive interview is the centerpiece of Ebony magazine’s January 2009 special collector’s edition, which chronicles the rise of Barack Obama to one of the most powerful positions in the world.
Some of what Obama said:
NYT: Rather than single out part of society, he said his agenda will help African Americans just as it helps whites, Hispanics, Asians and others. “I don’t have to choose between different groups,” he told Ebony magazine. “I want to put together a plan that is good for everybody. And that’s generally, I think, the approach that needs to be taken.”
Mr. Obama addressed the singular expectations he faces during an interview with the black-oriented magazine conducted in Chicago on Nov. 13 and released on Tuesday. It was his first print interview following his Nov. 4 history-making election and the magazine’s editorial director, Bryan Monroe, asked Mr. Obama how he would “look out for the needs of black America without being seen as the ‘black president’?”
“Well, you know,” Mr. Obama answered, “I don’t think this is going to be such a big problem because the issues that affect the African American community are issues that affect everybody. It’s just that they sometimes affect the African American community in a worse way.”
