Obama Won More Delegates: What Does this Mean?

Super Tuesday Delegates
well, the democratic candidate is chosen by how many delegates he or she has won. this year, in august, it will take 2,025 delegates to be the winner. so, sen. obama winning one more delegate is a good thing. however, sen. clinton has more overall at this point:
Clinton has locked in more than twice as many delegates as Obama, with 183 to
his 78, according to a tracking tally kept by CNN.

Four area residents witness mysterious object, lights in Selden sky

By ANGELIA JOINER Staff Writer

Steve Allen, Mike Odom and Lance Jones were out admiring a beautiful Texas sunset Tuesday evening when they saw something none of them can explain.

Allen called it an unidentified flying object. And, because he's been a private pilot for more than 30 years, he has a little more experience judging air speeds and distances than most.

“We all flipped out,” Allen said. “I didn't sleep a wink last night.”

Allen was at the home of Mike Odom in Selden about 6:15 p.m. when they suddenly noticed flashing lights about “3,500 feet above ground level,” he said.

“The ship wasn't really visible and was totally silent, but the lights spanned about a mile long and a half mile wide,” Allen said. “The lights went from corner to corner. It was directly above Highway 67 traveling towards Stephenville at a high rate of speed - about 3,000 miles per hour is what I would estimate.”

Allen said the lights were not those of a normal aircraft. He said they were more like strobe lights, and while they were all watching, the lights reconfigured themselves from a single horizontal line into two sets of vertical lights.

“The two sets were approximately one-quarter of a mile apart,” Allen said. “Then they turned into dirty burning flames. The flames were not blue. They were white in color. About two seconds later it disappeared completely.”

Allen said they were all scratching their heads and talking about what it could have been, when approximately 10 minutes later, the object flew overhead again.

“This time it came from the west traveling east towards Glen Rose,” Allen said. “And it was about two or three miles south of 67, and two military jets, possibly F16s, were in pursuit.”

“I was asking, “Are you guys seeing that?” Allen said.

Mike Odom said he didn't have trouble sleeping but it was a “wild experience.”

“It's unexplainable,” Odom said. “It was something not natural; it was moving way too fast.”

Information About the Candidates

boy am i tired of hearing people say they don't know what the candidates stand for. they're waiting for the media to spoon feed them.

well, they've got a long wait.

tv and newspapers aren't interested in giving you the facts, laying out the issues. they're concerned about the day to day blows, hillary cries, mitt's hair is messy and all that. they like the fights, the immediacy.

if you want to know what the candidates stand for, there are hundreds of sites on the web that will give you information on the candidates. not just information, but non-biased as well.
here is a nifty site that allows you to compare two candidates on issues, side by side.

and of course, this page gives you a lot of Obama info as well as other candidates.

A woman takes her dead son into her arms, as she grieves for her six-year-old son, Dhiya Thamer, who was killed when their family car came under fire by unknown gunmen in Baqouba, capital of Iraq's Diyala province, 60 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Baghdad, Iraq, on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007. The boy's ten-year old brother, Qusay, was injured in the attack as the family returned from enrolling the children in school, where Dhiya was to begin his first year. "Last Touch"

Media Rehashes and Rehashes Race Despite Truce

even though sen. obama and sen. clinton called a truce on this whole race issue (which has been misconstrued on both sides), the media will not let it go.
this morning, it was rehashed. all the morning news programs had the refrain: even though the candidates said let's get on with it, this is what happened said the media, and they droned on and on, blah, blah, blah.
of course, they had to rehash because if they didn't they would've had to come up with new programming on the fly.
the media is so obviously being used by the candidates and the the media is using the tight race to draw viewers and listeners. but do we really care about that stuff? mere distractions.
we know that both obama and clinton admire Martin Luther King (Happy Birthday), so how about we raise the game a little? after all, listening to all the blah blah blah is how we got W.

Anyway, Obama said when he starts negotiating his health care bill, "we're going to do it on CSPAN" so that everybody could see what what the insurance industry was up to. This was at the gym at Del Sol high school, and the 2,700 people went pretty much batshit crazy. At the prospect of watching health care reform legislation being negotiated on a channel that 2,699 of them have never watched. So that was cool.

Obama on Tyra

here's the rundown
Sen. Obama shoots hoops and talks to Tyra Banks on keeping his family together, smoking (he's not anymore), his first date with Michelle after a work gathering on the curb at Baskin Robbins (they had ice cream), on his 15th wedding anniversary in 2 days, his mom dying of ovarian cancer at 53, how the health care system mistreated his mom -- (insurance companies questioned whether it was a pre-existing condition or not), universal healthcare elsewhere in the world but not here, his mother, an emotional woman, used to tear up all the time, "a beautiful person... most of my values i get from her,"
he'll start bringing troops home immediately, but have some troops remain to look after US embassy in Baghdad, 10s of thousands of troops home within the first year, the Lincoln bedroom is not as fancy as you think (Tyra asked to have a slumber party there), he'll have a bbq on the front lawn of the white house,

Tyra's "never been asked" questions:
What's in your ipod? jay z, miles davis, bach, "i got a little salsa too"
in a movie, who would play you? Denzel "but somebody pointed out with my ears it might have to be will (smith)"

audience questions:
has experiencing predjudice made you a stronger man? "....makes you more empathetic, allows you to kind of see in somebody elses life...."

a woman with four children, struggles to pay bills?
"you're right, you're not alone." he meets people everywhere struggling. Increasing minimum wage every year, not every 10 years, earned income tax credit expansion, tax breaks not to the wealthy but to the people who really need it. long term, invest in schools, $275 million a day invested in Iraq, we could be spending that on roads bridges, hospitals.

Lack of experience?

"i've been in public service for 20 years... my experience matches up with anybody out there."
other experience: bringing people together to get things done, overcoming special interests, "telling the truth and standing up even when it's not popular."

Sen. Obama loves basketball but modest about his skills. "I'm all right."
He shoots and misses, then gets it in

how does he stay fit?
treadmill, basketball

Tyra pleads to her audience, teens, to VOTE.

Women Who Inspires Tears Votes Obama

Everything Barack Obama

By KATE SNOW and JENNIFER PARKERJan. 9, 2008

The woman whose empathetic question — "how do you do it?" — sparked uncharacteristic emotion Monday from Sen. Hillary Clinton ended up voting for Sen. Barack Obama in the
New Hampshire primary.

not a big deal but kind of interesting.

here's another tidbit:
Obama Goes After Bill Clinton
Email
Share January 09, 2008 4:42 PM

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Sen. Barack Obama hit back at his rival's husband, former President Bill Clinton Wednesday morning on NPR's Morning Edition, accusing him of "mischaracterizing" his 2004 position on the Iraq War.

"Former President Clinton has continued to mischaracterize my record on this and we're going to have to call him on it," Obama said. "The press has already pointed out that he's wrong about this, but he keeps on repeating it."

Obama was referring to comments Bill Clinton made on the eve of the New Hampshire primary, lashing out at Obama and calling his candidacy "the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen."

"It is wrong that Senator Obama got to go through 15 debates trumpeting his superior judgment and how he had been against the war in every year, enumerating the years, and never got asked one time -- not once, 'Well, how could you say that when you said in 2004 you didn't know how you would have voted on the resolution?' " Clinton said at a campaign rally at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire Monday night.

"Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen," the former president said.

By Wednesday morning, Obama was accusing Bill Clinton of misleading people about his position.

"At some point we are just going to keep drilling away at the fact that it is indisputable," Obama said on National Public Radio.

"I opposed this war from the start. In 2002, 2003, 2004, and the fact that I voted for funding for the war once I got into the Senate is perfectly consistent with my position that it was important to make sure that our troops had the equipment and the tools that they needed at a time when things were very dicey."

Obama also said he is in a strong position to win the Democratic South Carolina primary on Jan. 26th.

"I'm reaching out not just to the African-American community, but to people from all walks of life, saying we can put together a coalition that we haven’t seen in a long time to actually move the progressive agenda forward," he said.

and finally, the culinary union in las vegas endorses obama.

Obama's Yes We Can

another interview with ochairball.
you were predicting an obama win tonight?
indeed. no win for the hoarse and obviously tired obama but he sure gave an inspiring speech tonight. it was a winning speech. it's probably a good thing he didn't win given the media overkill on his campaign. twas hillary's night. an amazing battle it is.

a side note. i keep hearing people say that the candidates need to tell us what they plan as president but there are books and web sites and plenty of places where you can find out this information. get informed.

nevada
super duper tuesday

primary rundown from the obama campaign:
· Nevada: January 19th -- We have the biggest organization with 11 field offices and more than 50 staff; we're gaining strength every day.
· South Carolina: January 26th -- Former Democratic chairman Donald Fowler praised our 55 staff members in 11 offices for running "the most methodical voter-canvassing project I have ever seen in South Carolina."
· 22 other states: February 5th -- We have 32 offices open in 17 states, including states like Alaska, Utah, and Alabama where we're the only campaign up and running with a serious organization.
